A Winter of Learning Ahead

As the cold weather settles in, things are just starting to warm up behind the scenes here at Brown Family Farm. We’re thrilled to share our very first update with you—because even though the fields are resting, we’re hard at work preparing for our first official growing season. This early phase feels like the true beginning: a time filled with planning, dreaming, and laying the groundwork for everything we hope to grow and create in the year ahead.

Over the winter months, we’ll be diving deep into all the foundational pieces that will shape our farm and our future products. We’ve begun ordering seeds from small organic suppliers across Canada, researching the regulatory landscape for herbal and botanical goods, and exploring how to design a workflow that’s chemical-free and as plastic-free as possible. We’re also testing our soil, sourcing tools and sustainable packaging, sketching out drying racks and processing spaces, and learning everything we can about responsible, regenerative herbal production. Along the way, we’re hoping to connect with like-minded growers, makers, and processors through online groups and forums—people who share a vision for healthier, more sustainable herbal products and a more transparent botanical marketplace.

This post is just the beginning. Between now and spring, we’ll be sharing updates on each part of our winter work—from seed choices and soil tests to packaging research, recipe development, sustainability experiments, and everything in between. We’re excited to bring you along as Brown Family Farm takes shape, one thoughtful decision at a time.
