Our Story
Tucked among the rolling fields of Eastern Ontario, Canada, the story of Brown Family Farm begins nearly two centuries ago. The land was first granted by the Crown in 1810, by 1833 it had passed into the hands of Benjamin Brown, a local farmer whose sandstone homestead still stands today. Built in the 1840s from hand-cut stone drawn from the surrounding fields, the Benjamin Brown House became a landmark of perseverance and craftsmanship — a symbol of how early settlers worked with what the land provided, not against it.
Through generations, this same soil has been tended by a continuous line of farmers. From the Browns and Beaches to the Pooles and Emmons families, each generation left its mark on the property while remaining true to its agricultural roots. When we took stewardship of the land in 2015, we inherited more than an old farm — we inherited a way of thinking: that the best work is done with one’s hands, using simple, honest tools and respect for the earth.
Today, Brown Family Farm is reviving those early methods for a modern world. We grow and craft our herbs, teas, and tinctures using only materials that would have been familiar to farmers of the 1850s — wood, stone, metal, and time. No plastics, no synthetics, no shortcuts. Every harvest and every small batch is made with the same quiet care that sustained this land for over 190 years.
We are now working toward full organic certification, ensuring that our products meet the highest international standards for purity and sustainability. But our promise goes deeper than certification: everything we make is traceable, hand-crafted, and free from chemicals — a return to the way things were done when quality was measured in patience, not profit.
From the fields of early settlers to the shelves of modern homes, Brown Family Farm carries forward an unbroken legacy — one rooted in honesty, heritage, and the enduring wisdom of the land.
